Turn images into retro terminal-style ASCII art.
About the Image to ASCII Art Generator
Long before screens had pixels, printers had characters — and people made portraits out of them. This tool revives that craft: it samples your image, measures the brightness of each cell and swaps it for a matching character, from dense @ symbols down to empty space.
Three character sets change the mood entirely. Standard gives the classic ten-level grayscale look, blocks renders bold █▓▒░ mosaics that survive any font, and the 70-level detailed set squeezes near-photographic shading out of pure text. Slide the width up for detail, down for that chunky BBS feel.
How to use it
- 1Upload an image — portraits and high-contrast shots work best.
- 2Choose a character set and drag the width slider; the preview updates live.
- 3Copy the ASCII art to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file.
